February 2011 eNewsletter

Welcome to our first official eNewsletter. As we have mentioned we will be using more email and electronic tools to ensure you are kept up to date with news and information.

Whilst it has only just begun, 2011 has certainly had a huge impact on many Australians and New Zealanders. Various natural disasters have bombarded the news this year and therefore we feature an article below which describes the impact that these disasters will have on our economy and how you can help those affected.

On a brighter note, there is good news for people having a baby. The long awaited paid parental leave scheme is now in place so anyone giving birth or adopting a child on or after 1^st January 2011 is entitled to receive 18 weeks paid leave. Our article below includes a greater level of detail.

We also explain some changes that affect total and permanent disability cover (TPD). TPD gives you protection in the event you are unable to work for an extended period due to accident or injury. Our article includes important information everyone should be aware of.

Finally, We introduce our newest team member – Kate Salisbury.

Our summer of natural disasters

These last few months have been tough for many Australians emotionally, personally and financially. As we write this article, our friends across the Tasman are experiencing the worst earthquake to hit their shores in over 80 years.

TPD

Total and Permanent Disability (TPD) Insurance pays a lump sum if you are totally and permanently disabled before you retire and unable to return to work

Paid Parental Leave

The Paid Parental Leave Scheme is a new Australian Government funded entitlement for the primary carer working parent of children born or adopted from 1^st January 2011.
